Final Blog

This class truly was great. Yes, it was a lot of work outside of class, however it was enjoyable work… hell, I brewed beer! If it weren’t for this class I would have never brewed beer at all. I would have never gotten close with my dad by doing that project. I also learned a lot about our Internet world, which is weird because I’ve been spending my life on the Internet since 2008. I learned about anonymous and the crazy, cool, and outrageous things they do. I learned about my fellow classmates, and even my professor. Even though some didn’t share all of their thoughts in class, I made sure to be outspoken and had my voice heard. None of us were silenced and we were all given a voice, which is refreshing in the classroom setting. I had to take this class for a core requirement. I am a senior and pushed it off very last minute, but I’m happy I took it at this time. I really enjoyed coming to class and doing the work.

For extra credit I didn’t exactly get the LinkedIn recommendation but I gave you the recommendation letter in class.

Thank you for a great semester, and good luck!

Final taste test

I waited until the last possible second to do this post because my beer needed a lot of time! I bottled it exactly two weeks ago, which is how much time it needed to sit after the bottling process. I did not think brewing beer was this much for a process. When I did some research on brewing beer a lot of the bloggers and kits sell you on "if you can boil water, you can brew beer." Boiling water as a lot to do with it, but there is so much more. My dad called me last night from Ft. Myers and we cracked open our bottles together and enjoyed what we made with our bare hands. It’s a very satisfying feeling to enjoy something that you made from nothing.
How it tasted? AWESOME. It is slightly malty, amber ale. Unfortunately, it wasn’t as strong tasting as my dad and I hoped, and it was a little foggy, not as clear as we wanted it. However, it is beer, it is cold, and it is good.
More than anything this project has actually brought my father and me closer. My whole life he lived across the country and he wasn’t ever really around, and as a kid I didn’t really understand so I was angry with him for a long time. In high school I decided to patch things up, but we still weren’t that close. When I moved down to Florida my dad became only a 90-minute drive from me. We both have a passion for beer, and I know he has brewed it before; so turning to my dad for help was slightly out of my comfort zone. I was so happy I took that leap. We bonded more than I could ever imagine, and are planning brewery trips, and another future beer brewing session.

Week 4: bottling the beer

My dad had been collecting beer bottles for months to prepare. We needed 50

There was a bucket full of sanitizer, I hand sanitized each bottle... so tedious!

Trransfering the beer. Since the beer had been sitting in the clear containter for two weeks, some gross stuff collected at the bottom. So transfering the liquid to a clean bucket will help us filter out thr garbage.
After we trransfered the beer into the new clean bucket we added some sugar water to the mixture. The sugar water will allow carbination to happen in the bottling stage of the beer.

all of the bottles are filled

capped 48 beer bottles by hand!

my dad likes to put green tape on the beer he made so he knows that its his. The bottles are used and have other lables on them. The beer will sit in a dark place for two more weeks until I can refriderate and finally drink my creation!

Anons response post

I think its crazy awesome Anonymous is jumping in this. I just think of them as the rebels who are slightly dissing or government on “declaring war” on ISIS. I love how passionate they are and everyone is willing to chime in. Taking down 149 Islamic State-related websites and exposed 101,000 Twitter accounts and 5900 propaganda videos, proves that its not just the French anons that are angry, it’s the entire world. Its cool how we can all come together on line as one, but could be anyone from anywhere, but they are a partner.

#prayforparis

The world of social media has grown our world. Everyone is a person, and had their own profile to show for it. We have grown so technologically dependent we don’t even meet people in "real life “anymore. However social media makes things quick. We depend on Twitter and Facebook to deliver our news. We filter out the noise we never paid attention to on newspapers and original news reports. Were interested in what our friends are interested. We only see the news that they agree with, and we shape our views and opinions on that. This Paris thing, I saw so much garbage and opinions people paint all over their profiles to express to all of us that they feel some type of way. I know that social media obviously went crazy when the attacks happened, but I just try to ignore that and stick to the actual news so I can just get the facts.

GPSdoodles

Stephen Lund is a badass. His gps drawings are insane! His hardest one he talks about, the mermaid one, is super cool. I think this type o art is more impressive and credible because it takes physical fitness, Lund talks about how the mermaid piece took a lot out of him, exhaustion and hunger, he did it over two days. And its not even for sure that a drawing will turn out the way he planned. He said after he downloaded the data he was glad to see that the drawing turned out good, but he could take a wrong turn our route, and all of his work could be ruined. I like this form of art. Its time consuming, and can be thoughtful, and its just plain awesome.
