Free to play

I shared a lot of my comments in class about this film. But I don’t think gaming will blow up like sports do in the United States. Other countries, for sure go all out for gaming. Certain countries had gamers motivate actual athletes. Girls wanted the gamers as their boyfriends. In the US gaming isn’t looked down upon, but gamers don’t get a good rep. They are looked at as lazy, and malnourished. The US is always concerned about their image. We are known for high obese percentages in kids, and were looked at as lazy. Therefore many sport organizations encourage time to play outside, Nickelodeon and the NFL came together with Go Play 60, which supports an hour of play a day.  I really liked the film though. It introduced me to a world I knew nothing about.

"Removed"

I thought this was super intersting. There is a video where a girl is surrounded by people on there phone. I will attach the video. But I feel the same way. I always try to leave my phone alone so I can capture the world. I hate when I try to talk to people and they are glued to their phone. Yes we are a generation that can multi task but it annoys me when I am trying to have a real life conversation and someone else is stuck to their cyber world.

Video game blog

I am not much of a gamer. I grew up, however playing The Sims. My best friend and I had a super old version and we would play almost every day on her playstation. It was fun to have a friend there with me, in our pretend world. In the older version you just had goals you tired to complete to make your sims life awesome. We got newer versions and kept playing goal mode. Some levels were harder than others, and sometimes we would do free play. Make a whole village of our own sims and interatact with one another. Today, I dont play any games. I used to play candy crush on my phone. But life has gotten in the way, as well as a really hard level to beat, has made me less intersted.

Video Remix project

This is a viding remix. I watched Anchorman like five times during this project. Also Hannah Montana will be stuck in my head for the rest of my life. The message I wanted to get across isn’t serious, or life changing. I have always been a fan of this film. I used to watch it every day with my best friend when I was 15.

Therefore to make my 15 year old self giddy, I combined a pop star that was really popular when I was 15, and one of my favorite movies. I also think its funny that Miley Cyrus is far from “perfect.” I also wanted to make a character that is as “manly” as Ron Burgundy, seem little girl-ish, and make him look less masculine.  I am happy with the way it turned out. I purposely put certain clips to correspond with the music, and I think it turned out funny, and clever.

Meme

Straight from google—“A meme is an idea, behavior, or style that spreads from person to person within a culture.” Memes are wonderful because they anyone can make them. All you need is a picture, and a funny idea. Twitters have been dedicated to memes. The Hermit the Frog sipping tea meme “But that’s non of my business” broke the Internet a few years ago. People’s faces and having “booty had me like.” Memes are a funny way to troll the Internet with witty silly sayings. The pictures aren’t that important, its what’s said on them.
Drunk baby is another culture of memes. You can imagine the way he would say it and everything. Its a still, GIF that creates a monoloauge in ones head.
Now here are some funny ones I found on the internet.

RiP! A Remix Manifesto

“you cant argue your creativity when its based on other peoples stuff” That is what the copywriter woman said when the director, Brett asked her if she thinks copywriter holds people back. I disagree. People inspire others all of the time. I feel like when he was showing the demonstration of him making a remix he’s taking parts of the music and manipulating it to his advantage. It’s like writing a research paper and using outside sources. I don’t copy the source and call it my own. I use certain quotes and angles to manipulate it to fit my papers argument. In high school I had an art project to recreate Starry Starry Night by Vincent Van Gough, but I couldn’t use paint. I used blue sand for the night sky, I used muli colored rice for the swirls in the sky, I used foam shapes for the buildings, I used macaroni for the moon, and I used black feathers for the black flame like object. I thought it was super creative on my part, and I got to express my own creativity, by using Van Gough as a source. This is a greedy business who wants as much money as they can get there hands on. We are a generation who wants stuff now, and we want it for free. If we like you, we’ll support you.

Donald Draper, waving his rainbow flag

I really appreciate the work Elisa Kreisinger did with Mad Men. Someone who is such a womanizer like Donald Draper, I would never see him and Rodger together romantically. Their relationship has always been a bro-mance and I love that Kreisinger took it to the next level. The scenes are artfully woven together, in a constructed timeline that actually follows a story. The two spend so much time together, and are both uninvolved in their marriages I’m sure it was pretty easy finding scenes to piece together. I don’t see her work or any ripping of TV shows or songs as piracy, and its unfortunate that it gets reported that way. Watching her videos spark ideas for my own video ripping project. There is so much content out there and so many angles to go in, I am overwhelmed!

Internet Art Chapter 1

Olia Lialina is pretty freaking badass. The links I attatched are her works. One is pretty much just her website, which is pretty trippy. And the other one is her most famous work, “My boyfriend came back from the war” where you can choose your own path. What I also think is cool is The Last Real Net Art, where people can make their own versions of what she created.

VMS Matrix- I really admire this. Today Caitlyn Jenner broke the Internet when she announced she was a girl. The manly Olympic gold medalist was now a girl. I was confused, we all were confused, she was confused. Gender is a confusing, box everyone is stuffed in the minute we’re thrown in that blue or pink blanket. The VMS Matrix challenged these rolls, and norms in the early 90’s. They were feminist weirdoes, but they knew the issues.
