Its hard putting yourself into
photographs when you can put your actual self in it. It was a struggle for me
to just think about what pictures I wanted to take, because you have to ask
yourself “who am I?” It’s also difficult to put yourself into objects. Thinking
about what makes me, me, its hard! However once I started taking pictures, I
couldn’t stop. I get very passionate and I am passionate about certain things,
so those were no brainers. I also tried taking my photos more artistically. In
class just learning some simple tricks to do with my angles made a huge
difference. For example the picture of the baseball I took. I could have easily
just taken it resting on my dresser, and boom, a boring picture. But I took it
outside, on the ground. I got low and counted in the rule of thirds, and I have
a really cook picture of a baseball!
My artistic
direction isn’t anything too artsy. I’m not the crafty, or visual type
whatsoever. I originally wanted to do a dartboard of photographs but I was very
weary. I didn’t know how I felt about bringing sharp objects and having my
fellow students throw them at a wall. So I went with a rather simple approach,
my initials. The putting together of the project became fun. I had to look at
it like Tetris and put the pictures together just right and cut them in a
certain way to make them all fit.
